Dr. Valeria Casson Moreno obtained a Master in Chemical Engineering from University of Padova (Italy) in 2008; in 2012 she completed her PhD in Nuclear and Industrial Security at the University of Pisa (Italy). Before graduating, she was an intern at the E.N.I. Refinery of Venice. During her PhD, Dr. Casson Moreno joined the Fire and Process Safety Unit of the Health & Safety Laboratory in Buxton (United Kingdom), studying incidents in polymers production plants. From 2012 to 2013 she has been a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Texas A&M University and Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center at Qatar. Currently she is a Senior Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering at University of Bologna (Italy).
Dr. Casson Moreno main research interest is in Process Safety and in particular:
- Process Safety related to Bioenergy & Biochemicals production
- Quantitative Risk Analysis of bioenergy related processes (biogas, biofuels, biomass, ...)
- Chemical Reaction Hazard: Runaway Reactions – Calorimetry –Vent Sizing
- Investigation / Learning from accidents
