Thesis title: “Conductive and reversible thermoset nanocomposities based on Diels-Alder adducts reinforced with Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes”.

Thesis Subject: functionalised polymeric materials, materials chemistry, polymers.

Thesis supervisor: Dr. Chiara Gualandi (Università di Blogna) and Dr.Franck Quero (Universidad de Chile).

Thesis keywords: thermoset, nanocmposities, nanotubes, conductivity, reversibility.

Final degree mark: 110/110

Graduation date: 14/03/2019

The preparation of the thesis’ internship was carried out in part in Chili, at the materials laboratory of the “Facultad de Ciencias Físicas y Matemáticas de la Universidad de Chile” with professors Franck Quero, who teaches in the same faculty and Rodrigo Araya, doctor in chemistry and researcher of the “Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana”. For this work I obtained a scholarship "Borsa di studio della Scuola di Scienze" awarded by the "Università di Bologna" for academic achievement, for students doing internships abroad. The second part was carried out in Italy, in the laboratory of the "Polymer Science and Biomaterials Group" of the "Università di Bologna" under the supervision of Professor Chiara Gualandi.

  • è The project consisted in the synthesis of a polymeric material based on a functionalised polyketone, able to crosslink with low weight molecules and with carbon nanotubes thanks to Diels-Alder’s reaction. The presence of the CNTs improves the thermo-mechanical properties of the material and make the nanocomposite a semi-conductor. Moreover, the thermoreversibility of the Diels-Alder’s reaction, makes the material recyclable and remoulded. Once the material was synthesized, it was characterized using techniques such as DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis), DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis), XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy), FTIR (Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy), all at user level and SEM/TEM (Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscope).

Exams taken: Organic Synthesis, Physical-Chemical Methods for the Characterization of Molecules and Aggregates, Reaction Mechanisms, Chemistry of Receivers and Biocatalysis, Clinical and Forensic Analytical Chemistry, Metalorganic Chemistry, Mass Spectrometry with exercises, Analytical Techniques for Nano/Bio Sciences, Synthesis and Characterization Methodologies, Bio-Polymers, Computational Organic Chemistry, Catalysis in Organic Synthesis.

L – 27 Laurea in Scienze e Tecnologie Chimiche – 1st level degree in Chemistry

Facoltà di Chimica “G. Ciamician”, Scuola di Scienze, Alma Mater Studiorum, Università di Bologna

Thesis title: “Organocatálisis Stereoselective synthesis of fluorinated

stereogenic quaternary centers”.

Thesis supervisors: Dr. Marco Lombardo (Università di Bologna).

Final degree mark: 106/110

Graduation Date: 09/03/2016

  • è The goal of the project was to optimize a diasteroselective synthesis of fluorurated quaternary stereocenters, obtaines by aldehydes derived from Michael's reaction. To this end, screening tests to choose the best catalyst, optimization tests on the reaction conditions and finally, on the substrate, were carried out. During the research period I identified and characterized the products obtained with techniques such as 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, where I oversaw sample preparation and interpretation of the results, HPLC and TCL (at user level).

I carried out the practice in the research group of Professor Marco Lombardo of the laboratory of organic chemistry of the “Università di Bologna”.

Exams taken: Bio-organic Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis and Analytical Chemistry Laboratory, Macromolecules’ Chemistry, Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Spectroscopic Methods and Properties of Molecules and Aggregates, Inorganic Chemistry, Applied Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry (1 and 2) with laboratory, Applied Organic Chemistry, Kinetics and Thermodynamics, Chemical Diagnostics of Cultural Heritages, Physics, Mathematics, Fundamentals of Chemistry with laboratory, Laboratory of Organic Synthesis and Characterization Methods.
