Description of expertise and qualification and award received:

2000-2002 Undergraduate student. Research experience on electrophysiological methods such as single-cell patch-clamp technique and basic laboratory training on cell culture preparation and maintenance at the Lab of Cell Physiology Dept. of Human and General Physiology (University of Bologna, Italy), supervisor Prof Stefano Ferroni.

2002-2006 Ph.D. student with Fellowship of the University of Siena.

Research experience on electrophysiology, Cellular Physiology, Cell biology and Molecular Biology developing projects on “the role of astroglial ion channel expression/function in physiological and pathophysiological context” in the laboratory of Prof Stefano Ferroni (Dept. of Human and General Physiology, University of Bologna, Italy).

2006 Doctorate, Cellular Physiology and Neuroimmunophysiology, University of Siena.

Thesis: Guanosine promotes the upregulation of an inward rectifier potassium current in cultured rat cortical astrocytes. Coordinator Prof Pessina, tutor Prof. Ferroni.

2004: Period of work as visiting student in the Lab. of Prof Antonio Frigeri, (CEGBA), University of Bari, to learn siRNA technology and develop a project focused on “the role of astroglial water channel aquaporin4 (AQP4) in brain physiology”.

2005: Visiting student at Centre for Molecular Biology and Neuroscience CMBN, Norwegian Centre of Excellence, University of Oslo. Supported by Marie Curie Host Fellowships She spent a period of work in the laboratory directed by Prof. Ole Petter Ottersen Supervisor Dr. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam. Research experience on immunogold electron microscopy and confocal microscopy to develop a project focused on “the role of astroglial ion channel and AQP4 in brain pathophysiology.”

2005-2008: Post doctoral fellow at Dept of Human and General Physiology University of Bologna. Supported by Fellowship of Italian Ministry of Research (FIRB 2001) and by Post-doctoral fellowship of the University of Bologna, I worked in the Lab. of Cellular Physiology of Prof. Ferroni to develop a projects on “the modulatory effects of neurotrophic molecules on cultured astroglial cells” and “Analysis of cellular and molecular mechanisms of astroglial regulation of cellular volume: physiological and pathophysiological aspects.”

2007: Supported by European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) Short-Term Fellowship and Marco Polo Fellowship Program (University of Bologna) travel grant award, I worked as guest scientist in the lab of Prof Ole Petter Ottersen in collaration with Dr.Amiry-Moghaddam, at the Centre of Excellence CMBN, University of Oslo, Norway to develop a project on the role of “TRPV4 and AQP4 molecular complex in astroglial brain volume regulation”.

2007 Winner of International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) Travel Grant to support my attendance to VIII Euopean Meeting on Glial Cells in Health and Disease.

2008: Supported by Marco Polo Fellowship Program (University of Bologna) I spent a period of work in the lab of Prof Verkhratsky at Institute of Experimental Medicine, University of Prague, supervised by Dr. Anderova where I learned patch clamp recording on slices and independently develop a project on the role of astroglial ion channels in brain acute pathophysiology.

2008-2010: Post doc contract at CNR-ISMN, Bologna. supervisor Dr Michele Muccini as senior post-doc she is responsible of the Laboratory for bio-organic hybrid interface.

2009: guest researcher CMBN (2 months), University of Oslo.

2010-2012: Non permanent Researcher at CNR-ISMN, Bologna.
