Vincenzo Stanghellini is Professor of Internal Medicine in the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences, University of Bologna and St.Orsola-Malpighi Hospital Bologna, Italy.

PRESENT POSITION: Vincenzo Stanghellini is Specialist in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Professor of Medicine at the University of Bologna, Director of the Subspeciality School in Internal Medicineand Chair of Internal Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology of the University Hospital St. Orsola – Malpighi of Bologna. EXPERIENCE: Research Fellow (1981-1983) and Visiting Professor (1983-1985) at the Gastrointestinal Unit of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. RESEARCH INTEREST: Leading a successful group of investigators, his main research interests are represented by the pathophysiology of functional disorders of the GI tract, as well as diagnosis and treatment of functional digestive syndromes.

AWARDS and HONORS: The Master Award for Sustained Achievement in Digestive Sciences of the American Gastroenterological Association (2009). PUBLICATIONS: author of over 300 scientific publications on peer review journals. MEMBERSHIPS: United European Gastroenterological Federation (UEGF); European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (former member of the Steering Committee); American Gastroenterological Association (AGA); Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI) (past-President of the Regional Committee), Italian Society of Gastroenterology (SIGE); Italian Group for the Study of Gastrointestinal Motility (GISMAD) (past-President); International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD), (member of the Advisory Board). He is also Associate Editor, member of the Editorial Board referee for many peer-review journals.
