University and post doc degree:

• Degree in cultural anthropology with full marks (110/110 e lode) on 12/12/1986 at Rome University “La Sapienza”.

• Master in ethno-anthropology at the Suor Orsola Benincasa Institute of Naples in 1989- 1990.

Fieldwork:

• South Italy (1990-1994).

He carried out research about cultural production in South Italy. The ways by which cultural government organizations, private associations, publishers worked to product cultural events. This research included also unemployment, local labour, markets, the welfare state, social and cultural networks.

• Indonesia (1993; 1995-1996).

He carried out research about Toraja people in Soulawesi. Within the frame of the ethnography of speaking, he worked about code-switching events in a cultural and social context marked by national and global flows. Linguistic and communicative choices (between toraja, bahasa indonesia or english) are intepreted as social practices of identity making, regarding to contexts.

• Kampala (Uganda, 2003 - on)

He has framed a research project about the linguistic strategies of construction of the national identity.

• Italy (Milano, 2006 - 2010) He has realized a research project titled “Talenti extravaganti” on the artistic performances in and by migrant artists living in Milan.

• Italy (Milano, 2010- 2013) Since 2010 he is carrying out fieldwork on writers, dancers, painters, musicians and performers from all over the world actually working in Milan (reference 51). The research project title is “Culturalmente. Artistic Paths to Intercultural Agency”. The project is an ethnographic study of the practices of art in Milan performed by migrant communities and/or migrant artists: painters, dancers, traditional performers, writers, musicians and other contemporary artists.

• Italy (Milano, 2013-on) scientific responsible of a research project on the urban network Non Riservato, a cultural and social project aimed to create interconnections between cultural associations based in Milan and citizens, between different urban areas, and between political institutions (http://www.nonriservato.net )

• Coordinator and scientific referent of the Summer School Project “Imparare dal locale. Comunità e popoli tribali dentro la cornice globale” (Learning from the Local). West Bengal, Orisha, Tamil Nadu).

Since 2005 he has been teaching cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, ethnography of communication, history of anthropology, ethnography at Milan Bicocca University and at several Italian private and state Universities (as Iulm University, San Raffaele University, Pavia University, Bergamo University, Bologna University, Palermo University), both at the first and at the second degree level, and at PhD students level.
