Nota biografica

Tsenka Tsanova is a researcher in paleolithic archeology, specializing in stone technologies of prehistoric hunter-gatherer. Her research focuses on archeological and evolutionary reconstructions based on the stone technologies from the time of the replacement of Neanderthals by Homo sapiens in southeastern Europe. Her PhD at the University of Bordeaux 1 in 2006 contributed to the understanding of the Upper Paleolithic Homo sapiens stone technologies from Bulgarian landmark Paleolithic sites (Bacho Kiro, Temnata and Kozarnika caves). She established a links between the Balkans and conceptually close synchronous technological traditions of the Levant and the northern Mediterranean perimeter. She analyzed lithic assemblages from Zagros Mountain to establish and compare the dynamics of the stone technologies and their evolution. Tsanova was co-directing the Paleolithic excavation in Bacho Kiro Cave in North Bulgaria and coordinated the multidisciplinary research from 2015 to 2021.
