Short Bio

Professor Sandro Mattioli, MD is professor of surgery at the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, chairman of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and of the “Centre for the study and therapy of the esophageal diseases” at the same University, co-director of the PhD course in “Cardiac-Nephological-Thoracic Sciences” devoted to the post graduate formation of researchers aiming to the academic career. His scientific and professional activity is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the esophagus, lungs and mediastinum; he is a specialist in gastro-esophageal reflux, achalasia, cancer of the esophagus and cardia, advanced pathologies of the larynx-pharynx-trachea, thoracic trachea, lung cancer, pulmonary nodules and disease of the mediastinum. He is the author/co-author of over 750 scientific publications/presentations in national and international journals and congresses; he is referee for authoritative Journals in the field of thoracic surgery and gastroenterology (esophagus).
