Curriculum vitae

I am an associate professor at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bologna, Italy, where I presently teach Public Policy and Particpatory Democracy. I have taught courses (in Italian, English and French) on negotiation and deliberation for universities, public administrations and private firms, including the University of Sofia, Bulgaria (1999), University Autonoma of Barcellona, Spain (2000), University of Sydney, Discipline of Government and International Relations, Australia (Winter School 2005).

I am member of the boards of several journals (Rivista Italiana di Politiche Pubbliche, Policy and Society, Irish Journal of Public Policy).

From October 2008 to march 2013 I was  'Participation Authority' by the Assembly of tyhe Tuscany Region on the basis of regional law no. 69 of 2007 on citizen engagement.

Since 2011 I am president of the Italian Association for Public Participation (aip2).

My main research interests are in the fields of public administration, public policies, environmental policy, sustainable development, environmental education and, more recently, road safety policies, deliberative democracy. He has published two books on Italian environmental policy (Governare l'ambiente. Attori e processi della politica ambientale, Il Mulino, Bologna, 1997; Il controllo degli inquinamenti delle acque: l'attuazione di una politica pubblica, Quaderni ISAP Saggi, Giuffré, Milan, 1986, pp. 194) and co-authored a third with B. Dente, P. Knoepfel, S. Mannozzi e S. Tozzi (Il controllo dell'inquinamento atmosferico in Italia: analisi di una politica regolativa, Officina Edizioni, Rome, 1984, pp. 254). He has authored and co-authored a number of contributions to Italian journals and of chapters dealing with Italy in in volumes in English and Italian.

I live in the city of Bologna and cycle daily to work defying high levels of pollution and dangerous vehicle traffic.
