Roberto Piperno After the Medicine degree he
specialized in Neurology and in Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation.
He is the Director of the Operative Unit of Rehabilitation
Medicine at Maggiore Hospital and Medical Director of the
Rehabilitation Centre for severe brain injury “Casa Dei Risvegli
Luca De Nigris” at Bellaria Hospital, Azienda USL of Bologna .
Member of the steering committees of the Gra.Cer. (severe brain
injury) network and of the spinal injury network for the regional
health government of Emilia Romagna. Member of the Multiple Sclerosis Observatory of Emilia Romagna regional government.
He also contributed to the
clinical path for severe brain injured patients and for spinal
injured patients of the Azienda USL of Bologna. He is also member
of the board for most severely disabled people of the Azienda USL
of Bologna.
Fellow of the Società Italiana di medicina Fisica e
Riabilitazione (SIMFER) and of the Società Italiana di
Riabilitazione Neurologica (SIRN), of the World Federation for NeuroRehabilitation (WFNR) and of the European Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ESPRM). Member of the scientific
committee of the Federazione Associazioni Trauma Cranico
(La Rete). Scientific advisor of the Centro Studi per la Ricerca sul
Coma, Bologna.
He teaches at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of
Bologna (Physical Medicine In Neurological Rehabilitation for the
degree in Physiotherapy.
His professional experience is mainly devoted to
neurorehabilitation, with special emphasis in brain injury, spinal
cord damage, stroke and multiple sclerosis. He has also experience
in Movement Analysis.
He took part in previous research projects of the EU on
rehabilitation of young people after traumatic brain injury and on
Movement Analysis, in a research project of the Istituto Superiore
di Sanità on movement disorders in the elderly, and in the research
project funded by the Italian Ministry Of Health entitled "Il
percorso assistenziale integrato nei pazienti con Grave
Cerebrolesione Acquisita"; principal investigator of the Italian research project VESTA on Vegetative State.
He participated to the Italian GISCAR survey (severe brain injury)
and to the Italian GISEM survey (spinal cord injury).
