Academic discipline: ING-INF/01 Electronic Engineering

Curriculum vitae

Roberto Guerrieri received a Dr.Eng. and Ph.D. degree from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1980 and 1986 respectively.
After working at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences of the University of California at Berkeley as a Visiting Researcher and at the MIT as a visiting scientist, he joined the University of Bologna where he is a Full Professor and teaches design of integrated systems.
His research interests are in various aspects of integrated circuit modeling and design, including digital systems and biometric sensors, and applications of microelectronics to biotechnology. His work on VLSI design has been cited by widely-read magazines, such as Nikkei, Electronic Design and Technology Review, and documented in more than 100 scientific papers.
In 1992 he won the best paper award of the IEEE Transactions on Semiconductor Manufacturing for his research on issues related to the modeling of various IC manufacturing steps. In 2004 he received an ISSCC best paper award for his work in the area of silicon-based lab-on-a-chip.
He is Director of the joint laboratory between ST Microelectronics and the University of Bologna. His role involves the development of new microprocessors, computational systems and packaging technologies for advanced silicon circuits.
He is cofounder of two companies in the field of biomedical devices.
