Curriculum vitae

Pietro Micheli is Professor of business performance and innovation at Warwick Business School, UK. Previously, he was Senior Lecturer at the Center for Business Performance at the Cranfield School of Management (UK) and Research Fellow at the Advanced Institute for Management Research (UK). In 2009-2011 he was a member of the Independent Commission for Evaluation, Transparency and Integrity of the  Public Administration (CiVIT) in Rome. After graduating in Management Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, he earned a Masters in Management Research and a PhD in performance management from Cranfield School of Management.

His research focuses on two main themes: performance measurement and management, and innovation management. In the first area, he studies the development and implementation of performance measurement systems and their impact on behaviours and company results. In the second area, he studies the processes of new product and service development and, in particular, the role of design and design thinking.

His research projects have been funded by numerous bodies including: UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, British Academy, UK National Institute for Health Research, Innovate UK and Design Council. The results of his research have been published by various academic journals such as Research Policy, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Public Administration Review, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, and Long Range Planning.

At Warwick Business School he is currently director of the Distance Learning MBA course (n.1 in the world, Financial Times ranking) and holds MBA, DBA and executive education courses. In the last three years he has won eight teaching awards.

As a consultant he has collaborated with over 50 organizations, including: Emirates, Shell, BP, Orange, British Energy, United Nations, Council of Europe, Government of the United Arab Emirates, UK National Audit Office and UK Audit Commission.
