Short Bio

Nick Pearce graduated with a BSc in Geology with Geochemistry from Manchester University, and a PhD at Durham University on the petrogenesis of the mid Proterozoic alkaline Gardar dyke swarm, South Greenland. He worked at Aberystwyth University as a temporary lecturer in geology in the late 1980s and early 1990s before a short post Senior Geologist at the Countryside Council for Wales. He returned permanently to Aberystwyth in 1994 and has since perused research in the trace element analysis and correlation of tephra deposits. Nick worked on the development of laser ablation ICP-MS methods for the analysis of volcanic glass, and applied this to studies of tephra the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Iceland, Santorini, Indonesia and Chile. Nick also works on metal mine remediation and environmental geochemistry, and the provenance of archaeological materials, currently the "bluestones" at Stonehenge. He started at Bologna in November 2020 and has kept a part-time position in Aberystwyth.
