Education
Mohamad Ballan obtained a master degree in Bioinformatics (2020) at the University of Bologna, with a thesis on "Genome-wide haplotype-based studies of reproductive traits in pigs: focus on homozygous allele deficiency". Currently, he is PhD student at Bologna University, Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences – DISTAL.
Research activities
Mohamad’s research activities focus on genomic big data (NGS and SNP panel datasets) in different species of mammals. Within the framework of systems biology, his research includes:
▪ the implementation of several bioinformatic pipelines that include data storage and management, data curation, data analysis, and interpretation;
▪ genome-wide association studies (GWAS) analysis of production and reproductive traits;
▪ the detection of selection signature in different rabbit breeds;
▪ detection of Runs of Homozygosity Analysis (ROH) from genome data;
▪ copy number variant (CNV) detection.
