Nota biografica

Miguel Valério is Junior Assistant Professor of Aegean Studies. He trained in Archaeology at the New University of Lisbon (Licenciatura, 2009, and Master’s degree, 2011) and earned a PhD in “Cultures and Languages of the Ancient World and their Lasting Presence” from the University of Barcelona (2016), with a thesis titled Investigating the Signs and Sounds of Cypro-Minoan. His archaeological background and interest in historical linguistics and epigraphy converge in his research on Aegean prehistory and early writing systems.

He is a researcher of INSCRIBE (Invention of Scripts and their Beginnings), which focuses on the invention of writing. He is mainly involved in the multistrand analysis of the undeciphered Aegean scripts (Cretan Hieroglyphic, Linear A and Cypro-Minoan) and the reconstruction of their palaeography in diachronic perspective, but also takes part in the study and mapping of trends in invented image-based writing systems.
