Michele Dragoni graduated in Physics cum laude at the University of Bologna in 1976.
In 1980 he got a degree cum laude from the Scuola di Perfezionamento in Fisica at the same University.
In 1981-82 he obtained a CNR scholarship for the Department of Geology, Arizona State University (USA).
In 1982-83 he was Adjunct Professor of Seismology at the University of Bologna.
From 1983 to 1987 he was Assistant Professor of Geophysics at the University of Bologna.
From 1987 to 1994 he was Associate Professor of Theoretical Seismology at the University of Bologna.
From 1994 to 1997 he was Full Professor of Physics of the Earth at the University of Bari.
Since 1997 he is Full Professor of Solid Earth Geophysics at the University of Bologna.

He carries out his research activity in Solid Earth Geophysics, mainly in Theoretical Seismology and in Physics of Volcanism, and he is author of over 120 scientific publications in international ISI journals. He was principal investigator in many research projects funded by national and European institutions. He participated and gave talks in many national and international meetings.
Institutional activities and academic responsibilities
In 1995-96 he was a member of the Giunta of the Department of Geology and Geophysics, University of Bari.
In 1996-97 he was Head of the Department of Geology and Geophysics, University of Bari.
In 1996-97 he was a member of the Collegio dei docenti of the PhD Course in Environmental Sciences, University of Bari.
From 2000 to 2006 ha was a member of the Giunta of the Department of Physics, University of Bologna.
From 2005 to 2020 he was a member of the Collegio dei docenti of the PhD Course in Geophysics, University of Bologna.
From 2006 to 2015 he was director of the PhD Course in Geophysics, University of Bologna.
Since 2018 he is director of the Master Degree Course in "Physics of the Earth System", University di Bologna.
Since 2018 he is a member of the Commissione Didattica of the Department of Physics and Astronomy and of the Consiglio of the School of Science.
Participation in scientific and editorial boards
He was a member of the Board of Experts of the European Commission for the evaluation of research proposals in the framework of the Environment and Climate Research Program 1994-98.
He was a member of the Editorial board of the journal Annals of Geophysics.
From 2006 to 2009 he was an associate editor of the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
He served as a referee for the main international journals of Solid Earth Geophysics and for the evaluation of research proposals on behalf of Italian and foreign institutions (National Science Foundation, Marsden Fund).
Prizes and awards
In 1989 he was awarded a Glaxo Prize for scientific popularization, presented by the President of CNR.
From 1992 to 1994 he was a member of the Consiglio Nazionale Geofisico (CONAG) at the Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca scientifica e tecnologica (MURST).
From 2000 to 2005 he was a member of the Comitato interno di valutazione of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), chaired by Adam Dziewonski.
In 2004 he was a member of the "Earth and Environment" Committee for the reorganization of CNR.
From 2005 to 2009 he was a member of the Consiglio Direttivo of INGV.
He was a member of many examination boards in competitive exams for positions of full, associate and assistant professor in Italian universities and for positions of junior and senior researcher and of research director in INGV.
In the framework of the Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale 2016 for associate and full professors in the area 04/A4 - Geophysics, he was componente subentrante of the Commissione giudicatrice in 2018 and president of the Commissione Parallela in the years 2019-20.
