Matteo Dian

I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Bologna.  Previously I held research and teaching positions at the University of Bologna, University of Oxford; London School of Economics and Political Science, the European University Institute and Ca' Foscari University in Venice. I earned my PhD at the Scuola Normale Superiore (Italian Institute of Human and Social Sciences) in Florence. My most recent books are China’s Blueprint for Global Leadership: GSI, GDI, GCI and Xi Jinping's Vision for the International Order (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025, with Silvia Menegazzi) and  Reluctant Remilitarisation. Transforming the Armed Forces in Germany, Italy and Japan After the Cold War (Edinburgh University Press, 2023, with Fabrizio Coticchia, Francesco N. Moro). My research focuses on International Relations Theory, Security in East Asia, Japanese and Chinese Foreign policy, and US foreign policy in the Indo-Pacific region. Vai al Curriculum
