Curriculum vitae

    Maria Teresa Moscato was born in Vittoria (Rg), in South Italy, in 1947; she took a degree in philosophy in Catania University, and after got grants to educational research. Assistant teacher from 1981, and Associate Professor from 1992, actually she is Professor on Education in Bologna's University (from 2000), where also she teach in School of Education for Secondary Teacher Training (SSIS), from 2000 to 2009. 

   In the academic years 2004/2007, she also teach“Forme e processi di apprendimento per giovani e adulti” in the Faculty of Communication Sciences of Lugano University (CH). 

    Before 1995, she went for short teachers period in Padagogische  Hochschule Freiburg (D), and also for short study visit in some European University (Southampton, Nottingham, Exeter, Santander, Murcia, Gent, Porto).  She was supervisor or director of many educational and training program  for teachers and headmaster, organized by public school Board or by organization (central, regional or town Council).  She is also research consultant for MIUR, in a OECD-CERI program (Cfr. Formative Assessment. Improving Learning in Secondary Classroom, Paris, OECD, 2005, pp. 163-175). 

  She is member of SIRD (Società Italiana di Ricerca Didattica) and of SIPED (Società Italiana di Pedagogia). As Secretary of Central Board of SIPED, from 1994 to 2000, she organized three national Congress (Società, cultura e formazione pedagogica, Rimini, 1995; Bisogni emergenti e risposte pedagogiche, Cassino, 1996; La ricerca pedagogica in Europa, Bologna, 2000).

 Studies and researches 

     She was formed by education historians  and philosophers  (Dina Bertoni Jovine,  Piero Bertolini and Gino Corallo), and hers first studies were in educational historical and theoretical field, about school's history in USA (Filosofia ed educazione nell'età delle Riforme, Catania, 1983), and about some elements of comparative educational system.    During the last years she published some papers about Corallo' educational philosophy (Pensiero e verità in Gino Corallo, 2005; La pedagogia Cristiana: Gino Corallo nella prima stagione di Scholé, 2005) and she edited an anthological critical edition of  his most important work of 1961  (C. CORALLO, Educare la libertà, Scelta antologica a cura di M.T. Moscato, 2009).

    Relevant were hers researches in empirical field about didactics and scholastic failure. Two essential sectors were: researches on scholastic failure in relation to social familiar level: (Educazione familiare e insuccesso scolastico, 1983; Scolarizzazione e abilità cognitive, 1985; L'insuccesso scolastico nel Sud, 1989; Narrazione di sé e insuccesso scolastico in adolescenti, 1998; Stili educativi familiari e insuccesso scolastico, 2001). The second research area was related to migration and educational process in migrant family: 

 (Emigrazione, identità e processi educativi, 1988; A scuola fra Italia e Germania, 1992; Emigration und Ruckker. Identitätsprobleme von Kindern und Jugendlichen, 1993; Ecole et identitè: principes de méthode, 1993;  Intercultural Education as a new Field of Special Education, 1995; Dinamiche e scelte educative delle famiglie migranti, “La Famiglia”, 177, 1996, pp. 20-33; Famiglie in orizzonti interculturali come problema educativo, 1999;  L'Io e l'altrove. Emigrazione e processi educativi, in: G. CHIOSSO ed. , 2009).

      The most original research by M.T. Moscato can be find in her theoretical intercultural studies about myths and archetypes, latent in narrative texts (books or pictures) that join in infant and adolescent's identification processes (Il viaggio come metafora pedagogica,  1994; Il sentiero nel labirinto. Miti e metafore nel processo educativo,  1998). This last book obtained national prize Pescara (Stilo d'oro) for the year 1998.

       Another new research field is related to adult growth and life cycle, in perspective to lifelong learning (La trasformazione adulta: modelli teorici e figure mitiche, 2002). Teacher training can be considered as a special sector of adult lifelong (Formazione alla dirigenza e teoria pedagogica della scuola, 2002;  La dimensione della ricerca nella professione docente, 2002;  La formazione insegnanti in Italia fra esperienza e progetto; La scelta professionale nelle parole degli insegnanti  (in CORRADINI, 2004). In the same perspective the last books (Insegnare Scienze umane, 2007; Diventare insegnanti, 2008; Preadolescenti a scuola. Insegnare nella scuola secondaria di primo grado, Mondadori, 2013). In the same last years she work about the themes of “education” (ethics, citizenship, religion) in the school (Il senso religioso nello sviluppo dell'identità personale, 2007; Psiche e anima fra psicanalisi e pedagogia, 2008; Il tema della guerra nell'educazione alla cittadinanza, 2008; Cittadinanza e Costituzione e finalità della  scuola in: L. CORRADINI, 2009). 

In progress, the last research progrmm, about religousness and educational process, that has begun on 2010 (Moscato, Gatti, Caputo eds., Crescere fra vecchi e nuovi dei, Roma, Armando, 2012, pp. 350).
