In 2025, Maria Sole Barbieri was a Fellow at Project House Europe at LMU Munich. She completed her PhD in History at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, where she had been conducting her doctoral research since 2020. Her thesis investigates the failure of the European Community’s energy policy and the energy strategies of France and Italy following the 1973 oil shock.
Since academic year 2023/2024 she is Tutor for the International History course at the University of Bologna. She also held the position of enseignante vacataire in the Master's program Énergie, Écologie, Société at Université Paris Cité. In 2023, she was an exchange researcher at Sciences Po Paris.
Dr. Barbieri holds degrees in History and Contemporary History from the University of Pisa, including an exchange period at the University of Leicester (UK). Her research interests include international relations, energy politics, European integration, transatlantic relations, international organizations, and U.S. history.
