Lorett focuses on the law and practice affecting forcibly displaced and stateless people. She holds an LL.B. (University of Malaya) and an LL.M. (University of Cambridge). Admitted to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, she undertook brief stints in practice and as a legal executive. In 2025, she completed the Executive Master in EU Migration & Asylum Law with the Odysseus Academic Network. Her commitment began over two decades ago after volunteering at the Cambridge Refugee Support Group. She has since worked with UNDP, ICMC and UNHCR across Europe, Africa, and Asia. She is thrilled to join the European Research Council-funded ACCESS project, led by Associate Professor Madalina Moraru—her PhD supervisor. Lorett's research examines how courts in Malaysia and Indonesia—non-signatories to the 1951 Convention/1967 Protocol—shape access to asylum; she is a project scholarship recipient.
