Short Bio

Associated Prof. at the University of Bologna since 2011. I received a Ph.D. in Marine Science from the University of Genova, and carried out research at several institutions in Italy, Australia, USA and UK. I was a Fulbright Research Fellow at Stanford University. I am Coordinator and/or PI in several (inter)national research projects and initiatives, and serve the Editorial Board of 3 international journals. I am Management Committee Member in the COST Action Ocean Past Platform, and co-leader of the eco-engineering group within the World Harbour Project. I am author or coauthor of > 200 publications. Some of my publications have received prices and special mentions, and according to Google Scholar my work has been cited 7367 times (H index =42). My research focuses on understanding what are the consequences of multiple anthropogenic impacts – emphasizing coastal urbanization, sea defence, enhanced loads of sediments and habitat loss – and what factors facilitate the recovery and restoration of damaged ecosystems, finalized to the management and conservation of marine biodiversity
