Curriculum vitae

Professional Experience:

Current Position: ERC Junior Assistant Professor in Paleoanthropology

(ERC no. 724046 – SUCCESS - Department of Cultural Heritage, University of Bologna) since 2018. Project title: “Study of cranial and post-cranial asymmetries by using digital methods”. The aim of this project is to investigate asymmetries (fluctuating, directional and individual) in the whole palatal arch in relation to skeletal human bones by using 3D digital analysis. Skeletal Human remains of young and adult individuals are of fundamental importance to quantify skeletal asymmetries during growth and to find possible correlations among variables that may underlie physiologic or pathologic conditions in the observed occlusal patterns. Main goal is to explain the processes driving the emergence of asymmetries and potentially significant relationships between masticatory asymmetries and post-cranial alterations such as posture and locomotion. The results will have impact on the future development of evolutionary medicine as well as bio-archaeology and paleoanthropology.

2017 – 2018: ERC Postdoctoral Research fellow

(ERC no.639286 - HIDDEN FOODS - Department of Oral and Maxillo Facial Sciences. University of Rome, La Sapienza). Project title: "Masticatory and paramasticatory activities of Paleolithic and Mesolithic individulas from Italy and Balkans”. In this study, I compared results from zooarchaeological, stable isotope, and dental calculus analyses as well as lower second molar macrowear patterns in order to gain a broader understanding of the palaeodiet between the end of the Late Pleistocene and the beginning of the Early Holocene in eastern Alpine region of Italy.

2014 –2018: PhD in Anthropology and Primatology – BIO08, Department of Biology - University of Florence, Italy. Palaeoanthropological dissertation entitled: Human dental tissues: Advancement in virtual dental analysis”

2012 – 2014: Master’s Degree in Quaternary, Prehistory, and Archaeology, Department of Humanities, University of Ferrara (LM-2 Archaeology - DM 270/04).
