Nota biografica

I am Associate Professor of International Relations (IR). My main research interests revolve around the role of ideology, religions, and civilizational identities in foreign policy and international order. I have focused on two overarching themes: i) the entanglements between religion, states, and power in global politics; and ii) the role of non-liberal ideas, identities, and actors in the contestation and crisis of the liberal international order. I have a broader interest also in the theory, sociology, and pedagogy of IR.

Before joining the University of Bologna in 2025, I taught at the University of Exeter (2014-2025). I was Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute (2012-2014) and obtained my PhD in IR from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2012). I held Visiting Fellowships at SAIS, Johns Hopkins University, Washington DC (2011 and 2017) and worked for the World Bank and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

I am the co-editor of the Routledge book series Identity, Ideology, and Worldviews in Global Politics and editorial board member of Aspenia, Aspen Institute Italy’s journal of international affairs.
