Since 2008 he is a researcher with a fixed-term contract at the Marine Management Department of ISMAR-CNR Ancona, Italy. After graduating he worked at ISMAR - CNR in Ancona with various contractual arrangements until 2008 (scholarship, research grants, etc.), dealing with artificial reefs, impact of offshore extraction platforms and evaluation Of fishery resources. During the years of use at the CNR-ISMAR he participated and co-ordinated several research projects gaining experience in the ecology of benthic species, fish communities associated with artificial structures, ecology of fishing and impact on the environment of fishing, resource evaluation , Analysis of otolytics and dynamics of populations. Since 2012, he is a member of the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries of the European Union; Member of the Nekton and Fisheries Committee of SIBM (Italian Society of Marine Biology); Member of the Marine Stewardship Council as the Fishery Team Leader in MSC certification. Since 2014, it has been listed on the list of experts from the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) as Fisheries Scientist and Fishery Statisticians / Modellers.
Dr. Scarcella's technical expertise is part of the evaluation of resources and in the drafting of management plans. In particular, Dr. Scarcella is actively involved both in the development of the a4a method and in the use of methods such as SS3 that allow the estimation of the impact of individual fleets on resources. He has also been coordinator since 2008 of the experimental fishing campaign called SoleMon.
