Head of Nephrology and Dialysis Unit in Morgagni- Pierantoni Hospital (Forlì) since October 2011.

Head of Kidney Pre-Transplantation phase in S.Orsola-Malpighi University Hospital of Bologna from 2003 to 2011.

From 1978 to 2011 he worked as nephrologist in Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation Unit in S.Orsola University Hospital of Bologna.

RESEARCH AREAS: 1) Renal Morphology 2) Acute Kidney Injury 3) Diet therapy 4) Clinical Pharmacology in chronic renal failure 5) Progression Mechanism of Kidney failure 6) Treatment of Chronic Renal Failure 7) Artificial Replacement therapy of uraemia 8) Biocompatibility in  dialysis treatment 9) Parenteral infections in dialysis 10) Therapeutic Aspects of viral hepatitis in immunocompromised patients 11) Peritoneal Dialysis 12)  Clinical and organizational aspects of transplantation programs 13) Allocation of organs for transplant 14) Physical Activity for the prevention of cardiovascular disease in transplant patients.

The scientific research has resulted in over 300 scientific publications (2 books published, 1 monograph, 3 book chapters, 141 original papers, 160 abstracts) published in national and international journals and scientific texts. Publisher of the book "Organizational aspects and communication programs to donation, procurement and transplantation of organs" (1995) and "Viral hepatitis in nephrology and dialysis (1998).

President of the National Congresses: "The polycystic kidney disease and its manifestations" (Forlì April 13, 2013),  "Focus on kidney stones," (Forlì May 11 2013), "Diabetes and Kidney" (Forlì 20 September 2014).

Scientific Secretary of the Courses of the Italian Society of Nephrology "Best support in chronic uraemic patients on the waiting list and in patient with kidney transplant", (Bologna, November 2005 - January 2006).

National Coordinator for the National Transplant Center of Research Protocol "Transplantation ... and now sport". Member of the Group of Experts of the National Transplant Center for Audit in National and International Transplant Centers.

Member of the: Italian Society of Nephrology, Italian Society of Organ Transplantation, European Society for Artificial Organs.

Professor for the School of Specialization in Nephrology at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Bologna.

Professor of Science in Nursing. Speaker at national and international conferences on topics related to the long-term results of renal transplantation, the optimization of dialysis methods, the management of waiting lists for Kidney transplantation.

Medical member of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles (1984) and Barcelona (1992).
