Prof. Gaetano D. Gargiulo graduated in Medicine and Surgery at
the University of Bologna obtaining a specialist diplom in Cardiac
Surgery at the same University, where he also achieved the title of
Dphil in Scientific ed Experimental method of Research in
Cardiothoracic-vascular issue. In 1984 he won in Milan the "De
Gasperis-Donatelli Prize" for the young cardiac surgeons. Since
1989 Prof. Gargiulo has been working at the Department of Cardiac
Surgery of the S.Orsola-Malpighi Hospital of Bologna, where since
2002 he has been Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and GUCH
unit. Since 2005 is Professor of Cardiac Surgery at Alma Mater
University of Bologna.
In 1987 he was "Chirurgien Attaché" at the Laennec Hospital in
Paris, between 1990 and 2002 he has been several times abroad for
stages at Laennec and Necker Hospital, University of Paris, at the
Brazilian "Istituto do Coracao do Hospital das Clinicas",
Facultade de Medicina de Universidade de Sao Paulo, and in Cardiac
Surgery Institute of Lovanio - University of Bruxelles.
Currently he carries out teaching and training within the degree
course in Medicine and Surgery, the post-graduate course in Cardiac
Surgery, the course in Pediatrics at University of Bologna, as well
as at the master in Pediatric Cardiology.
Since 1985 up today he attended as speaker and moderator in
several national and international congresses, his scientific
production includes more than 150 publications in national and
international journals, mainly in the field of clinical and
experimental research.
