Director of Research at National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – CNR), he was previously Assistant Professor at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa, Italy. He holds a Laurea Degree in Physics, cum laude (University of Pisa, Italy) and a PhD Degree in Engineering - Innovative Technologies (Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Pisa, Italy). He is principal investigator for national/international projects on photonics (he currently coordinates a Horizon 2020 FTI project on optical sensing, leads a WP in a Horizon 2020 FET project on 2-photon nanoprinting, and recently led an H2020 project on Brillouin sensing), is in charge of the photonics laboratory of CNR-IMM Institute in Bologna, has published more than 150 papers, and is inventor of 6 patents. His research interests in photonics include optical amplification, nonlinear optics and silicon photonics, Raman-Brillouin effects in optical fibers, optical sensors and fiber communications. Member of technical and editorial boards in national/international conferences and journals, he also serves as an expert referee for funding project proposals in programmes including EU H2020.
