FULVIA FARABEGOLI M.D., Ph. D. was born in Cesena,
Italy, on 10th August 1959.
July 1978: took the Scientific School Matriculation and obtained
the maximum results.
October 1978 - July 1984: University of Bologna, Medical School.
In 1982 became an internal student at the Institute of General
Pathology, University of Bologna, in the Laboratory of Electron
Microscopy directed by Prof. Massimo Derenzini. On 25th July 1984
she graduated with honours (110/110 e lode) in Medicine discussing
a thesis on " The structure of Nucleolar Organizing Regions (NORs)
in mammalian cells".
Post-Graduate Research
After graduating she continued her research, in the same
laboratory, on the structure and function of ribosomal chromatin.
In November 1984 Dr. Fulvia Farabegoli was involved in a research
project in oncology (Progetto Finalizzato Oncologia, C.N.R.). In
October 1985 Dr. Fulvia Farabegoli begun her Dottorato di Ricerca
(Ph.D.) at Bologna University, investigating the fine structure of
nucleolar ribosomal genes in situ.
On July 1990 she awarded the Doctorate degree discussing a
thesis on " Relationship between structure and function of
Nucleolar Organizer Regions in mammalian cells".
From December 1989 to September 1992 Dr. Fulvia Farabegoli was
recipient of a research fellowship by A.I.R.C. (Milan) for Cancer
Research, to investigate the role of argyrophilic proteins
associated to ribosomal genes (Ag-NOR proteins) in the
proliferation of cancer cells.
June 1991-September 1992: stage in the Neuroblastoma Laboratory
of the Kinderklinik, directed by Prof. Fritz Lampert, University of
Giessen, Germany. Application of Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization
(FISH) techniques to investigate numerical chromosome aberrations
in neuroblastoma and paediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
samples.
1st October 1992: she became Researcher and she has worked in
the Experimental Pathology Department of the University of
Bologna until 2012, when she changed affiliation. Fulvia Farabegoli is now working at the Pharmacy and Biotechnology Department (FaBiT) of the University of Bologna.
October-December 1994: stage in the Laboratoire d'Oncogenetique,
Centre Renè Huguenin, Saint-Cloud, France, directed by Dr. Rosette
Lidereau supported by a EMBO fellowship. During this period she has
had the opportunity to apply molecular genetic techniques,
including Polymerase Chain Reaction-Loss Of Heterozygosity
(PCR-LOH), on breast cancer samples.
August-October 2000: stage in the Quantitative Pathology
Laboratory of the Department of Pathology, Free University
Hospital, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, under the scientific
direction of Dr. Paul van Diest, supported by a EMBO short-term
fellowship. Comparative Genomic Hybridization was applied to 47
breast carcinoma samples from Italian patients.
March 2015: Master degree in Dietetics and Vegetarian Nutrition (UNIVPM, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy)
