After the positive experience within the framework of the Global Alliance of Medical Excellence, the School of Medicine and Surgery proposes the Clinical Case Discussion Moderator Training with the goal of offering an innovative learning experience to Medical Students enrolled in one of the four Degree Programs in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bologna.

Program and Goals

Get to know an innovative teaching format:
The Clinical Case Discussion (CCD) format was developed by leading American medical schools and has successfully been implemented at Ludwig Maximilian University Munich for two decades. The learning format emphasizes peer teaching, active participation, clinical reasoning and collegial discussion of real medical cases. In this course, you will learn the structure of the teaching format, its strengths and weaknesses, and how to conduct your own session.
Improve your clinical reasoning:
Clinical reasoning is improved through both a real-world based learning format demanding diagnostic choices but also through theoretical background on how scientific and clinical reasoning are currently conceptualized. We also include useful algorithms and heuristics that will help you make good clinical choices. In addition, decision support systems such as available online databases will be introduced.
Learn basic concepts of learning science:
The course does not only teach you how to conduct CCDs but gives you the reasons for why learning science considers this format particularly useful as well. Important current principles of learning science such as active recall of a foundation of prior knowledge, spaced and varied practice and the importance of mental models are taught.
Practice your medical English:

As both this course and the CCDs in general are conducted in English you will improve your medical English.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Medical Students (IV-V year) and Junior Clinical Tutors

FORMAT: interactive face-to-face sessions held in English

APPLICATION (for medical students)

Students must be enrolled in the 4th year (degree programs in Medicine and Surgery of Forlì and Ravenna) or in the 5th year (degree programs in Medicine and Surgery of Bologna) in the academic year 2023/2024.

Students attending the fourth or fifth year of the Degree Programs in Medicine and Surgery must submit their application to Prof. Fabrizio De Ponti (fabrizio.deponti@unibo.it) by the deadline of September 30, 2023 with the following attachments:

a) detailed CV (which must specify knowledge of English, which must be at least C1, and must include the number of credits – CFU – achieved up to the date of submission);

b) motivation letter in English (maximum 1 page) with relevant experience (especially in teamwork).

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES. In case more than 15 applications are submitted, the School of Medicine will select 15 candidates. Criteria for selection:

knowledge of English (at least C1)
merit (number of credits and scores) weighed by year of attendance
previous experience and motivation

IMPORTANT NOTE: no credits (CFU) will be granted by the University of Bologna. However, students attending both days will receive a certificate of attendance, which, in a student portfolio logic, may be considered by their degree program among the activities concurring to define the score to be assigned to the “Prova Finale”.

Summer School on “Interprofessional Education for Planetary Health”

After the positive four-year experience within the framework of the Global Alliance of Medical Excellence (further information here [https://www.game-med.net/] ), Korea University (Seoul, South Korea) proposes the International GAME-TEI Summer School on Interprofessional Education for Planetary Health, which will be held in Seoul, July 10-14, 2023, and invites students from partner Universities.

The host University requests a fee of 500 US$ for participating students (this includes program and accommodation in room sharing, but does not include travel costs to Seoul).

The initiative has the goal of promoting an international working group on the topic within the Global Alliance of Medical Excellence.

Program and Goals

1. Describe how the environment and human health interact at different levels.

2. Propose and assess feasibility of simple local solutions to improving sustainability in your own health care settings, using systems thinking.

3. Introduce the role of health professionals as advocates to protect and promote health impacted by the interdependence of health and ecosystems.

Through active participation, group presentations in the format of poster and onsite oral presentations, students from medical, nursing and pharmacy schools from different parts of the world can exchange ideas and highlight cultural differences in strategies in achieving sustainable healthcare.

Participants will receive an official certificate of attendance by the host institution (Korea University).

Our School of Medicine will select maximum 4 candidates to be presented to Korea University.

APPLICATION: students attending the fourth-to-sixth year of the Degree Programs in Medicine and Surgery (CODE: 8415 in Italian and 9210 in English) must submit their application to Prof. De Ponti (fabrizio.deponti@unibo.it) by the deadline of April 12, 2023 with the following attachments:

a) detailed CV (specify knowledge of English, which must be at least C1 and include the number of credits – CFU – achieved up to the date of submission);

b) motivation letter in English (maximum 1 page) with relevant experience (especially in interprofessional environments o other GAME activities).

Elective Clerkship in Pharmacology: more positions available

Elective Clerkship in Pharmacology: increased number of available positions in September-October 2022

Dear Students,

applications are now open to attend this elective clerkship, aimed at developing the prescribing skills of students attending the 4^th, 5^th and 6^th year of the degree program in Medicine and Surgery.

This clerkship includes both face-to-face and online activities, including access to the online platform developed through a European Collaborative ERASMUS+ Project (http://www.prescribingeducation.eu/european-prescribing-exam/ ), where a formative self-assessment test will be made available to participants.

Applications are now open and, more importantly, instead of single positions, up to 20 positions are available for each of the following periods:

YEAR 4: 26/9/2022-7/10/2022 AND 10/10/2022-21/10/2022

YEAR 5: 26/9/2022-14/10/2022 AND 17/10/2022-4/11/2022

YEAR 6: 26/9/2022-7/10/2022 AND 10/10/2022-21/10/2022

To obtain credits, it is compulsory to sit the online formative self-assessment test and attend the de-briefing session.

Tirocinio in Farmacologia: aumento posti disponibili

Gentili Studentesse e Studenti,

sono aperte le iscrizioni al tirocinio elettivo di Farmacologia dedicato all’autovalutazione del proprio livello di competenza nella gestione delle terapie farmacologiche. Il tirocinio è proposto dal Prof. Fabrizio De Ponti ed è rivolto agli iscritti del 5° e 6°anno (CdL Medicina e Chirurgia - ordinamento 8415) che desiderano sostenere un tirocinio “a scelta”.

La modalità di erogazione del tirocinio è mista dal momento che prevede anche l’uso di materiale di e-learning volto a favorire lo sviluppo delle competenze prescrittive degli studenti. Infatti, tramite un test online di autovalutazione (in inglese), messo a punto grazie a una collaborazione europea (http://www.prescribingeducation.eu/european-prescribing-exam/), il partecipante potrà acquisire maggiore consapevolezza delle proprie necessità di approfondimento per raggiungere un livello di competenza prescrittiva adeguato entro la conclusione del proprio percorso di studi.

Le iscrizioni sono già aperte e si segnala che per i seguenti turni sono disponibili 20 posti per ogni turno, a differenza dei turni successivi, in cui, per sovrapposizione con altre attività didattiche, è possibile la frequenza di un solo studente per turno:

Il prof. De Ponti invierà agli iscritti il link che consentirà di accedere al materiale di e-learning. Per ottenere l’idoneità in questo tirocinio sarà necessario partecipare al test formativo di autovalutazione online (in inglese) e partecipare alla sessione finale di de-briefing.

A seconda del turno prescelto, il test formativo obbligatorio di autovalutazione online (in inglese, su piattaforma dell’Università di Amsterdam) si terrà nelle seguenti date: 3 oppure 10 oppure 17nbsp; oppure 24 ottobre dalle 12:00 alle 15:00.

International Summer School on Interprofessional Education and Simulation

After the positive three-year experience within the framework of the Global Alliance of Medical Excellence (further information here), Ludwig Maximilian’s University (Munich, Germany) proposes the International Summer School on Interprofessional Education and Simulation, which will be held in Munich July 23-29, 2022, and invites students from partner Universities. Final confirmation of the face-to-face meeting format in Munich will be communicated in May 2022.

The host University requests a fee of 500 € (which includes program and accommodation) for participating students.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learn how to discuss with peers in other health professions;
Get acquainted with Crew Resource Management Tools;
Assess existing Interprofessional Education formats;
Develop new formats during inter-professional and international group work based on case-studies.

Our School of Medicine will select maximum 4 participants (two from the MD Degree Programs and two from the Nursing Degree Program).

Tirocinio ONLINE di recupero "Prescrizione dei farmaci: strumenti e approccio pratico ragionato"

Gli studenti del 4°, 5°, 6° anno e fuori corso dell’ordinamento 8415 che debbono ancora sostenere un tirocinio “a scelta” avranno la possibilità di recuperarlo anche attraverso un percorso strutturato a distanza dal titolo: “PRESCRIZIONE DEI FARMACI: STRUMENTI E APPROCCIO RAGIONATO”.

Il tirocinio online si terrà dal 9 al 28 novembre 2020 (lunedì, mercoledì e giovedì dalle 18 alle 20 e il sabato mattina).

Le iscrizioni saranno aperte dal 27 ottobre al 2 novembrenbsp;(informazioni dettagliatenbsp;qui)nbsp;e si effettueranno su Studenti Online specificando una delle seguenti tipologie di tirocinio da recuperare:

Il tirocinio avrà durate di 14 giorni per gli studenti che dovranno recuperare un tirocinio a scelta di 3 o 4 cfu e di 21 giorni per gli studenti che dovranno recuperare un tirocinio a scelta di 7 cfu. Per ottenere l’idoneità in questo tirocinio sarà necessaria la frequenza, che verrà valutata dal Prof. De Ponti.

Per poter partecipare ed acquisire i CFU è indispensabile inserire preventivamente il tirocinio di Prescrizione dei farmaci nel proprio piano di studi entro le date sopra indicate.

Il materiale didattico sarà disponibile sulla consueta piattaforma a questonbsp;linknbsp;(accesso tramite password fornita il primo giorno accedendo alla relativa aula virtuale TEAMS).
