Since 2000 Eva Picardi is full professor of Philosophy of language at the Department of Philosophy ofthe University of Bologna. In 1984 she received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford having submitted a dissertation on the subject of assertion. Her dissertation was written under the supervision of Michael Dummett. As a Humboldt Research Fellow she spent the academic year 1988/89 at the University of Erlangen/Nürnberg where Christian Thiel acted as her host. In 1986 she was visiting professor for a couple of months at the University of Helsinki at the invitation of Georg Henrik von Wright , and in 1997/98 she spent an entire academic year at the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Bielefeld at the invitation of Eike von Savigny.

During the years 2000-02 she was acted as President of the Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy (SIFA) Presidente della Società italiana di filosofia analitica (S.I.F.A.). In  2009 she was Visiting Fellow All Souls College, Oxford. From anuary 2011 till December 2012 she acted as the director of Cogito, Research Centre in Philosophy(web: http://cogito.lagado.org/node/606, and since Septemeber 2012 she is a  full member of  the "Accademia delle Scienze di Bologna".  

From 1992 till 2000 she was co-editor of the international journal "Lingua e stile" ( Il Mulino, Bologna.), since 1993 she is a member of the Advisory Board of the "European Journal of Philosophy" (Blackwell, Oxford), since 1999 she is a scientific advisor of the journal "Iride" (Filosofia e Discussione Pubblica, Il Mulino, Bologna), since January 2007 she is a member of the Editorial Board the New Series on the History of Analytic Philosophy published by Palgrave/Macmillan. Since 2011 she is a member of the Scientific Commetee of  the Journal for the History of Analytic Philosophy, http://newprairiepress.org/journals/jhap/user.
The focus of her research is in the areas of contemporary philosophy of language and history and philosophy of logic, with a special emphasis on the work of Gottlob Frege. She is the author of Assertibility and Truth. A Study of Fregean Themes (Bologna, CLUEB 1981), Linguaggio e analisi filosofica (Bologna, Pàtron 1992), La chimica dei concetti (Bologna, Il Mulino 1994), Le teorie del significato (Roma-Bari, Laterza 1999, translated into Spanish in 2001) and of many papers published in Italian, English and German devoted to certain aspects of the logic of Frege, Peano and Russell on the one hand, and to contemporary discussions on the theory of meaning with a special emphasis on the works of Dummett, Quine, Davidson, Wittgenstein and Brandom, on the other. She has edited and translated into Italian Gottlob Frege's Wissenschaftlicher Nachlass (Napoli, Bibliopolis 1986), and, together with C. Penco, she is the translator and editor of Frege's seminal papers of the years 1890-1897 ( Senso, funzione e concetto (Laterza 2001). For the publisher Laterza she is attending at the translation of Frege's Opere scelte (Selected Works).
