Esther Shears is Research Fellow at the University of Bologna. She is also currently a PhD Candidate at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Energy & Resources Group. In May 2019, she received her Master of Science & Master of Public Policy degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.
Esther broadly studies how climate change will impact the financial sector and how the private sector and regulatory agencies are responding to climate-related financial risks. Her dissertation research focuses on the governance of systemic risk, particularly how central bankers and policymakers are tackling the challenge of integrating climate models into financial stability monitoring.
Her research interests include the macroeconomics of climate change, the regulatory vacuum of sustainable and climate finance, the political economy of the decarbonization transition.
