IUC International Maritime and Transport Law Course, Dubrovnik, 5-10 September 2022

From 5 to 10 September 2022, the well-established yearly IUC International Maritime and Transport Law Course is going to be held.

The scope of the Course is to provide to the participants the analysis of the latest international and national regulations in the field of maritime and transport law, with prominent lecturers from various Croatian academic institutions (Adriatic Institute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, University of Zagreb, University of Rijeka, University of Zadar and University of Split) as well as from a number of higher education institutions from abroad (University of Bologna, University of Ljubljana, Nicolaus Copernicus University - Torun, Kyushu University - Fukuoka, International Maritime Law Institute - Valletta, University of Teramo, Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University, Jaume I University - Castellon, University Carlos III - Madrid, City University - London, University of Elbasan, University of Vigo and World Maritime University - Malmö).

The Course will enable young researchers from this area to gain new knowledge and to compare the legal regulations of different countries through classes of outstanding university professors and renowned maritime law experts, and also to participate in panel discussions in order to analyse potential solutions of the emerging international legal instruments and of proposed amendments of the relevant maritime conventions.

Besides lectures, seminars and workshops, the Course structure requires an effective contribution of participants who will have an opportunity to represent and describe their own research projects related to their LLM or PhD studies before a circle of academic senior researchers and experienced professionals.

Dear students, for attending classes it is necessary to carefully study the Protocol drafted for Phase 3, which is available at the following link:

students must firstly take seats that are farther from the entrance in an orderly manner and in succession. Once a row is full, students must seat in the next one;
take only the seats that are available according to posters. Please, note that in some classrooms posters are attached to non-available seats;
should a student need to exit the classroom, the whole row must stand up and enable her/him to leave, keeping distances;
avoid non-necessary movements;
it is forbidden to use coat racks.

A Roma, presso l'ENAC,nbsp;Via Gaeta 3 Sala Tamburro, il 19 e 20 ottobre 2017, si svolgerà il convegnonbsp;"I nuovi orizzonti del Diritto della navigazione aerea", organizzato dall'Associazione Italiana di Diritto della Navigazione e dei Trasporti - A.I.DI.NA.T., dall'Università di Roma Tor Vergata e dall'Università La Sapienza di Roma, in collaborazione con ENAC.

Il convegno, "destinato a celebrare i primi 10 anni di vita dell’A.I.DI.NA.T.", è volto a "dare, innanzitutto, conto dei processi evolutivi che hanno conferito nuovi e più moderni caratteri al fenomeno della navigazione aerea e, corrispondentemente, alla sua regolazione normativa" e, al tempo stesso, "offrire il presupposto per discutere dei futuri orizzonti in cui si dovrà muovere il settore della navigazione aerea a fronte delle emergenti, e talvolta anche critiche, situazioni che si stanno profilando nel contesto mondiale. Ciò anche in relazione all’affermarsi di dottrine economiche e politiche non coincidenti con quelle che avevano visto il consolidamento del sistema dell’aviazione civile e soprattutto all’evoluzione tecnologica, tanto dei veicoli che dei servizi, che dovrebbe consentire un impiego sicuro e fluido dello spazio aereo. In questa ottica verranno, pertanto, presi in considerazione i principali istituti presenti nel settore aereo, in cui sono riscontrabili significative evoluzioni. Potranno così proporsi in chiave «futuristica» alcune soluzioni in risposta alle tendenze normative attualmente ipotizzabili, in relazione ai principi fondamentali che presiedono alla disciplina giuridica della navigazione aerea".

On the 6th and 7th October 2016, the Erasmus School of Law hosted the international conference "60 years CMR".

"The CMR conference dates back to 19 May 1956. In 2016, the Convention will celebrate its 60th birthday. While 60 is a typical age for retirement, CMR is still very successful. Nonetheless, this 60th birthday offers an ideal moment for an evaluation, to look into the weaknesses, but also into the strengths of this Convention".

AIMS

The aims of the 5^th International Research Seminar in Maritime, Port and Transport Law are many. Firstly, it will offer post-PhD Researchers and PhD-students an opportunity to present their on-going research to each other and to receive valuable feedback on their on-going work from their Colleagues from the fields of Maritime, Port and Transport Law. Lawyers and advanced law students interested are invited to hear reports, and if necessary intervene with questions.

Secondly, each morning the program starts with an in-depth Lectio Magistralis given by a leading Law Professor, Professor Rhidian Thomas (Swansea University), Professor Eric Van Hooydonk (Ghent University), Professor María Victoria Petit Lavall (Universidad Jaume I - Castellon De La Plana) on subjects of current interest. The Lectio Magistralis will be followed by Masterclasses held each day by Full or Associate Professors (Prof. Dr. Dorotea Ćorić - University of Rijeka; Prof. Dr. Nadezhda Butakova - Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, St. Petersburg) or Senior Assistant Professors (Dr. Igor Vio - University of Rijeka; Dr. Mišo Mudrić – Zagreb University; Prof. Dr. Elena Orrù – University of Bologna), and distinguished practitioners (Mr. Taco Van Der Valk, in charge of the Young CMI, Mr. Lino Verbeke, Honorary Consul of Croatia in Belgium).

Thirdly, during the seminar participants will have excellent networking opportunities to improve or extend their international academic contacts in the fields of Maritime, Port and Transport Law. Moreover, on July 1^st will be held a Symposium on current perspectives on transport issues, where distinguished practitioners belonging to well known Law Firms associated with ASLA - Associazione degli Studi Legali Associati will present the most significant findings related to some of the most relevant current transport issues.

TARGET GROUP

Post-PhD Researchers and PhD-Students in the fields of Maritime, Port and Transport Law (both Private and Public Law and including Procedural Law, Jurisdiction and Conflict Law) from all over the World. The International Research Seminar is also open for attendance by legal practitioners and advanced law students of at least master level who have already successfully completed their course(s) in Maritime and/or Transport Law and who are interested in specializing further in these matters. The Friday Symposium is open also to academics, legal practitioners and law students.

BASIC SET-UP

The time slots available for the various presentations by post-PhD Researchers and PhD-students are determined in 30 minutes each (20 min. for the presentation and 10 min. for the discussion). Presentations will be grouped together in sessions based upon the subject-matter. If necessary, parallel sessions will be scheduled to allow all PhD-students to present their research and obtain feedback from the audience.

LECTIO MAGISTRALIS

From the organizing and supporting Universities, three distinguished Law Professors have confirmed to hold a Lectio Magistralis to the participants of the International Research Seminar on topical subjects. The idea is to provide high-level teaching to the PhD-students and advanced master students who in turn are expected to prepare for and participate actively in discussion during the master class.
