UnaQuantum Conference 18 and 19 December at DiSCi

This year, the fifth edition of the ‘Open Source Technologies for Cultural Heritage, Cultural Activities and Tourism’ conference will take place at the University of Bologna on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 December. These annual conferences are organised by Una Quantum Inc. APS, are now well-established events on the national calendar, dedicated to digital innovation in the field of cultural heritage. Since 2021, the initiative has promoted dialogue between technological innovation and the protection of cultural heritage, in part thanks to the contribution of the Directorate-General for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes.

Day 1 - Thursday, 18 December - Workshops (https://www.unaquantum.com/convegno-uq-2025-workshop/)

The workshops at the 5th UQ2025 Conference offer training and provide a space for operational discussions dedicated to the use of open-source technologies for the research, management and enhancement of cultural heritage. These sessions will take place on Thursday, 18 December at the University of Bologna, led by experts from academic and professional institutions.
Each workshop will last approximately 3–4 hours: one will take place in the morning and one in the afternoon, between 10:00 and 18:00. Further details of the final timetable and logistics will be provided in the coming weeks.

Day 2 - Friday 19 December (https://www.unaquantum.com/convegno-uq-2025/)

The 2025 edition will be divided into four thematic sessions:

  • Preventive archaeology and GIS, focusing on preventive assessments of archaeological interest and the use of dedicated plug-ins for QGIS.
  • 'Technologies for the analysis and management of archaeological records' will cover everything from satellite remote sensing to proximity remote sensing, including drones, geophysics and archaeological reconnaissance.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Cultural Heritage: insights into machine learning and the automation of documentation processes.
  • The fourth session will focus on communication and the digital enhancement of heritage, including virtual and augmented reality, and 3D storytelling projects.

As in previous editions, the conference proceedings will present the outcomes of research and workshops, helping to disseminate the most innovative practices in open-source technology applications for cultural heritage.

This event provides a unique opportunity to share research results, experiments and best practices, as well as strengthening the network of collaborations between public bodies, private entities and open-source communities.

The conference will be held in the Prodi Hall at the Department of History, Culture and Civilisation of the University of Bologna (Piazza San Giovanni in Monte 2).
