&lt;p&gt;The &lt;strong&gt;8th FinGeo Seminar&lt;/strong&gt; (2–3 February 2026) is an &lt;strong&gt;international large-scale seminar&lt;/strong&gt; that aims to foster debate on “Contemporary advances in financial geography” within the following broad nexuses, presented and discussed in &lt;strong&gt;parallel and plenary sessions&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The 8th FinGeo Seminar, in line with the well-established FinGeo tradition [https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/2833115X.2025.2589603], will take place in a welcoming, high-level international environment. This edition will be hosted by the &lt;strong&gt;University of Bologna&lt;/strong&gt;, thanks to the collaboration of the &lt;strong&gt;Department of Management [https://scienzeaziendali.unibo.it/en/index.html]&lt;/strong&gt;, the &lt;strong&gt;Regional Studies Association [https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/cres20]&lt;/strong&gt;, the journal [https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/rfas20], and &lt;strong&gt;STS Deloitte&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The seminar will address, among other topics, FinTech, the AI–finance nexus, sustainable finance, biofinance, climate finance, the role of bank foundations, finance for social business, relational credit, investment funds, philanthropy, and development finance. These themes will be explored from different perspectives, including — but not limited to — economic geography, political economy, political science, geopolitics, financial statistics, financial economics, banking and financial intermediaries and development studies.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The event will bring together &lt;strong&gt;academics&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;researchers&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;from around the world&lt;/strong&gt;, as well as &lt;strong&gt;institutional representatives &lt;/strong&gt;and &lt;strong&gt;practitioners&lt;/strong&gt;, with the aim of strengthening dialogue and enhancing understanding of global trends in financial geography.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In particular, the programme is designed to foster scholarly debate on recent developments in financial geography, structured around the following broad thematic nexuses:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The format is designed to inspire ideas, stimulate meaningful debate, and foster networking in a friendly international environment. It will include keynote speeches, panels and dialogues with practitioners, short paper presentations, site visits, and networking events.&lt;/p&gt;

This edition will focus on &lt;strong&gt;in-field &lt;/strong&gt;research methodology in Financial Geography.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;It is going to be held in a friendly academic environment of the oldest University of the world in an Italian area where small and mid-size firms, cooperatives and social businesses, local banks, bank philanthropic foundation and public funds have created an international leaderships in several traditional and innovative industrial sector (i.e. automotive, mechanics, agrifood, heath, green economy, bigdata and A.I.). Over the past year, Bologna has emerged as one of the leading world hubs for high-performance computing (HPC) and quantum technologies, opening new opportunities to explore the intersections of finance, sustainability, and technology.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Therefore, this FinGeo School offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the past and engage in debates about the future, fostering research on the current and emerging developments in financial geography.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Methodologically, this edition will combine inspiring keynotes from leading scholars with hands-on, field-based research approaches in Financial Geography. The programme features traditional guest lectures, site visits, and fieldwork applying research methodologies. It will be further enriched by career development sessions, networking opportunities, and 'meet the editors' events with leading journals associated with FinGeo.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Bursary opportunities are available to partially cover travel expenses, supported by the Regional Studies Association – FinGeo Research Network project.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Please note that the FinGeo School is organized &lt;strong&gt;back-to-back to the 8th FinGeo Global Seminar&lt;/strong&gt; that will be held &lt;strong&gt;2&lt;sup&gt;nd&lt;/sup&gt; and 3&lt;sup&gt;rd&lt;/sup&gt; February 2026&lt;/strong&gt; at the University of Bologna premises. FinGeo School participants are welcomed to stay for the seminar and present a short paper or joining the discussions.&lt;/p&gt;
