Curriculum vitae

Barbara Pecori, has carried out research in Physics Education at the Science Faculty of the Bologna University since 1974, first as grant holder, then as researcher and from 2001 to 2018 as associate professor. She retired on the 1st of November 2018.

The research topics addressed by her activities are:
Education to Scientific Knowledge
Teaching Physics with new Technologies
Initial and Continuous Teacher Education
Communicating Physics
Science Education in informal contexts

The research activity, carried out within research groups that obtained national and international financial support, resulted into more than 80 publications on national and international Physics Education journals and books, and into contributions to national and international congresses. She has given lectures and seminars in various schools and universities in Italy and abroad. In 2000 she has been co-author of a patented student laboratory apparatus for measuring cp/cv in gasses (Unibo-INFM patent) that has been presented by Unibo at the Geneva Innovation Exposition (2003).
The most recent research works concern:
- collaboration to the design and implementation of an European web site aimed at encouraging the use of lab activities in teaching physics (European project LEPLA);
- investigation of educational potential of informal education contexts (Project “Fisica a Mirabilandia”, Exhibition “Percorsi di Ricerca - la Fisica attraversa Bologna”);
- research on Modern Physics teaching, focussing on the role of images from electronic and scanning microscopes;

- Education toward Responsible Research and Innovation (European project IRRESISTIBLE)

From 2001 to 2003 she collaborated with the Regional Institute for Educational Research (IRRE/ER) in planning and carrying out teacher training activities to the use of new technologies in science teaching.
From 2002 to 2005 she has been local co-ordinator for the LEPLA project (Socrates-Minerva Project 99843-CP-1-2002).
She was also involved in the celebration of the 2005 year of Physics: she participated in the implementation of the Foucault pendulum in the Church of San Petronio in Bologna and in the Palazzo della Ragione in Padua, in the setting of the exhibition “Percorsi di Fisica” and in the organization of a series of seminars on physics research topics.
From 2005 to 2007 she has been responsible for a section of the project Lauree Scientifiche at the Physics Department, Bologna University, aimed at circulating in the secondary schools of the Bologna area a condensed version of the “Percorsi di Fisica” exhibition together with seminars on research topics.

From November 2009 to July 2013 she has been Head of the Centre for Educational Research (CIRE, Unibo).

From 2013 to 2016 she participated in the European Project IRRESISTIBLE (FP7-CSA-SA 612367) within the UNIBO partner coordinated by Margherita Venturi.

In June 2017  and June 2018 she collaborated to the project Alternanza Scuola /Lavoro that brought to the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy 50 high school students  who were involved in designing, experimenting and video documenting experiments for Physics education.

She has taught courses for the Laurea Triennale and Laurea Specialistica in Fisica (Physics Education, Physics Education Lab), and for the Laurea in Scienze della Formazione Primaria (Elements of Physics and Physics Education).
From 1999 to 2008 she has also taught courses in Physics Education in the Scuola di Specializzazione all'Insegnamento Secondario, devoted to pre-service teacher training in Physics.
She has been tutor of more than 30 dissertations in Physics on topics of Physics Education.
She was member of the International Doctoral School "Science, Cognition and Technology" based at the Philosophy Department (Unibo) from 2007 to 2017.
