High school diploma: Liceo Scientifico (1971)

Degree in Medicine: 28 July 1977, cum laude

Winner of a grant from the National Research Council (CNR) (1978).

Master in Sports Medicine (1978).

University Researcher in Internal Medicine (1980).

Specialty diploma in Internal Medicine (1982) and Cardiology (1986).

Qualification for the position of Associate Professor in Internal Medicine (2003).

Associate Professor of Internal Medicine (2006).

Author of an expert system in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases, together with a cardiology textbook, both mainly intended as teaching tools for students.

Secretary of the Geriatrics Specialty School at the University of Bologna (2002-2010).

 

Scientific Activity

Fellow of the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (Hammersmith Hospital) - Cardiovascular Unit directed by Prof. A. Maseri - University of London (1982).

Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), of the Italian Society of Cardiology (SIC) and of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI).

Director of several research programs, including complex epidemiological surveys involving hundreds of people.

Reviewer of scientific papers on behalf of international journals (European Heart Journal, American Journal of Cardiology, Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, Heart, Diabetes Care, etc.)

Author of more than 200 scientific publications, 3 books an 4 book chapters, mainly concerning cardiovascular risk, epidemiological investigations in the elderly and, recently, the physiopathology, prognosis and treatment of stroke.
