Professor Anders Friberg is a globally respected researcher in the science of music performance
and music informatics. He came to the Department of Speech, Music and Hearing in 1983 to do his
degree project for civilingenjör, and has been working here to the present day, with brief excursions
to other institutions. Anders Friberg has made major contributions to numerous topics, such as
polyphonic synthesis, rules for music performance, and the representation of emotions in music,
music and gestures. More recently, he has studied and developed the automatic recognition of
musical structure and content, in other words, machines that listen to music.
On the occasion of Anders Friberg’s 60th birthday, we are proud to present a symposium in his
honour. With a full afternoon of presentations by academic peers from near and far, we will
celebrate his work, and enjoy a formidable exchange of ideas. The symposium is open to all –
welcome!
