The theological and anthropologic concepts of Filone di Alessandria have always been and still are the object of research. Numerous publications have been published analysing the notions of creation, the essence of human nature, the presence of the evil, the dynamic of its ethics, the perspectives of soteriology and history. Through this problematic, elements of comparison with other Jewish-Hellenistic texts have been examined in depth. Recent articles have examined how Filone influenced the early fathers of the church.

The studies which have been documented in two volumes, both of which Angela Maria Mazzanti has edited, regarding the meanings of the term mysterion from the Ancient Greeks to other cultural contexts. (Il mistero nella carne. Contributi su Mysterion e Sacramentum nei primi secoli cristiani, Castel Bolognese 2003 e Il volto del mistero. Mistero e rivelazione nella cultura religiosa tardoantica, Castel Bolognese 2006)), have generated interest for a more in depth research on the meanings of altheia and logos. The need to understand a transcendent reality as defined by mysterion brings about an intellectual and existential research, which emerges from the study of the meaning of aletheia and from the numerous meanings and elements evoked by lagos.

The Professor’s current research is more specifically focused on the various semantics of logos and in particular, their relationship with anthropology in Jewish-Hellenistic contexts  through various contributions: Il logos nell'antropologia di Filone di Alessandria. Proceedings of the 9th EASR Annual Conference and IAHR Special Conference, a cura di G. Sfameni Gasparro, A. Cosentino, M. Monaca, Palermo 2012, 905-917.

Two studies on eusebeia in Filone di Alessandria have been printed:Il rapporto dell'uomo con Dio.

The theme of ‘crisis’, considered particularly significant in the present context which seems to be defined by the word itself (crisis) was the object of an International Seminar:"Crisi e rinnovamento fra mondo classico e cristianesimo antico", organised by the Professor, as an introduction to the argument, which was followed by a Conference , which took place at the Dipartimento di Storia Culture Civiltà at Bologna in April 2016. The records are about to be printed having been edited by A.M Mazzanti and I. Vigorelli.

The reflection on the studies of Christianity in the first centuries is another of the Professor’s areas of research. The Professor wrote the introduction of the volume which can be found in: "Pensiero classico e cristianesimo antico. A cinquant'anni dalla pubblicazione del volume di W. Jaeger, Cristianesimo primitivo e paideia greca (1961)", as well as a study on J.Danielou which can be found in: Convegno Storia e mistero: Una chiave di accesso alla teologia di Joseph Ratzinger e Jean Daniélou edited in 2016.
