Website of the program: https://master-waves.eu [https://master-waves.eu/]

The main objective of this master’s degree in Acoustics is to provide the students with expertise in experimental methodology, numerical modeling and theory in order to be able to design, characterize, model and understand acoustical systems and devices.

It relies on the following mobility path: the first semester is spent in Coimbra (Portugal), the second one in Valencia (Spain) and the third one in Marseille (France). The fourth semester is then devoted to the Master's thesis and the internship.

Study program : https://www.master-waves.eu/waves-study-program

The third recruitment campaign will open by the beginning of November 2022 until the end of January 2023.

It is also possible to apply for Erasmus Mundus scholarships (including a monthly subsistence allowance and travel amp; installation costs). Overall it is proposed to use augmented reality, and advanced data processing techniques for automatically detecting, evaluating and monitoring crack propagation in RC elements. The research team will leverage the data from one current project sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation. This data includes, but is not limited to digital images taken during the testing of standard Texas RC bridge girders. Testing is being done to examine damage development (i.e., crack patterns and widths) at prestress release and the load resisting performance of the girders under shear-critical loading scenarios. On the basis of the results obtained, the research team will refine the algorithms such that their performance is optimized.

The overarching goal of this lab is to pioneer scientific discovery and advance the next-generation of technologies and methodologies for the monitoring and protection of civil and aerospace structures. The research projects are highly interdisciplinary in nature and require implementation of concepts of dynamics and vibrations, wave propagation, digital signal processing, data acquisition systems and extensive knowledge of sensors and statistical pattern recognition methods. The multi-disciplinary nature of this research gives students an uncommon experience within engineering research.
