Health and Safety Training for Study and Research Areas

Training courses are organised as part of the promotion of health and safety in study and research areas and are available to all students.

Training is mandatory for students who for study or research purposes work in the following areas: laboratories (including IT-only laboratories), workshops, operating rooms, experimental fields, archaeological excavations, geological sites, and all other workplaces that present specific risks.

In these cases, according to the law on occupational safety (Legislative Decree 81/08), for health and safety purposes students have worker-equivalent status and as such require training on health and safety in the workplace.

In any case, training is available to all other students, who do not have worker-equivalent status, but it is not mandatory.

Recognition of previous training

You may request the recognition of previous training and exoneration from:

  • general training (Module 1), if you have a certificate issued by the University of Bologna or other entity.
  • specific training (Modules 2 and/or 3 and/or 4), only if you already had training at the University of Bologna for the same category of risk and within the 5-year validity of the certificate.

The University does not recognise specific health and safety training provided externally by other entities and organisations.

To apply for recognition of previous training or to check its conformity and any exemptions from following a module deemed to be equivalent, students of first- or single-cycle degree programmes may send their certificate to the relevant teaching branch or to the Safety Training Office (Ufficio Formazione sicurezza) in the manner indicated on the web page of their degree programme; all others should contact the Safety Training Office.
