Healthcare and medical treatment in Bologna

If you study at the University of Bologna and living away from home, you can rely on some dedicated services to assist you if needed.

Free medical assistance from ANT medical staff

What it entails

The service, which was created through an agreement between CUSB (Bologna University Sports Centre), the ANT Foundation, and the Bologna USL (Local Health Authority), allows you to receive assistance from ANT medical staff.

Who it is for

Italian students from outside Bologna, EU and non-EU students (exchange students, international students).

How to request it

The ANT Foundation can be contacted on 3407819625 during the following days:

  • on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 14:00 to 16:00
  • on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 12:00.

An operator will call you back to gather your personal data and and will arrange you to be contacted as soon as possible by an ANT doctor.

After the first contact, a doctor will call you back to carry out a telephone triage and decide whether you should have an outpatient visit, and/or to prescribe medicines / diagnostic tests / specialist medical examinations.

Location of the clinics:

Doctor appointments, if necessary, will take place at the ANT Foundation Practice in Via Jacopo di Paolo 36, Bologna.

Assistance from a general practitioner

What it covers

The service allows you to contact a doctor (also called a GP or family doctor) for medical assistance.

Who it’s for

Italian students from outside Bologna, EU and non-EU students (exchange students, international students).

How it works

  • Italian citizens: can choose a temporary general practitioner for the duration of their studies, as an alternative to their doctor from their home town. To do so, they have to go to a CUP (Unified Booking Point) with an identity document and their health card.
  • EU and non-EU citizens: if enrolled in the National Health Service they can register with a general practitioner for the duration of their enrolment. Alternatively, one can see a general practitioner through their health insurance policy or via other arrangements. Full information can be found at medical assistance for international students.

Other medical assistance services for international students

European Union (EU) or non-European Union (non-EU) students can find further information on dedicated services on the medical assistance for international students page.
