Interruption of studies

Suspension of studies refers the possibility to interrupt your studies for a given period.

During the suspension you are not allowed to carry out any activities under your career, such as sit exams, modify or present a study plan, request the recognition of learning activities.

 

Cases in which suspension can be requested

By law you may not be enrolled in more than one degree programme at any one time, therefore suspension must be requested in the following cases:

  • enrolment to a first and second cycle degree programme;
  • enrolment to other specialisation schools;
  • enrolment to a PhD programme;
  • enrolment to 1st or 2nd level Professional Master's Programmes
  • enrolment to courses listed in DM 249/2010;

until you have qualified.

Moreover, suspension from studies may be requested in the following cases:

  • enrolment in Italian military schools until completion of the relative programmes;
  • civil service for the academic year in which this is performed;
  • birth of a child for the academic year corresponding to the year of or following the birth (suspension may be requested by both parents);
  • serious illness, confirmed by a medical certificate, of a duration of no less than 6 months for the academic year corresponding to the year of or following the event, for the whole duration of the illness;
  • serious reasons linked to personal or family conditions at the discretion of the Director. In this case the application must be supported by suitable documentation that clearly states the grounds. 

How to suspend your studies

To suspend your studies you must:

  1. complete the application form for suspension from studies, sign it and affix a 16.00 EUR duty stamp;
  2. present to the Non-Medical Specialisation School Administration office your record book (where issued), badge, any justifications and the completed and signed suspension application form. 

How to resume your studies after a period of suspension

To resume your studies after the period of suspension you must:

  • complete and sign the returning to studies form;
  • send an e-mail to the Non-Medical Specialisation School Administration office to request the payment code for any unpaid fees for the years prior to suspension to be loaded onto Studenti Online. The recognition fee, a lump sum paid in lieu of the whole amount of the enrolment fees for the past years, is not due. The fees must be paid in full for the whole year in which you resume your studies and perform any activities valid for your career.
  • pay the fees due as described in the above point as soon as you receive your code on Studenti Online.  The payments may be made: -on-line by credit card (circuits: Visa, Mastercard, Diners, American Express), even where not issued to the student, on  Studenti Onlineat any Unicredit Banca branch, using the payment code printed from Studenti Online (Find the nearest Unicredit branch)

Deadline for the presentation of the notice of returning to studies

As soon as the period of suspension is over, you must present the return to studies form. You must present the form to the to the Non-Medical Specialisation School Administration office from  1 October of the academic year in which you resume your studies, otherwise you will lose your student status.
