Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

The course will provide fundamentals of intra-vehicle wireless and wired communication systems, and of wireless transmission and network/protocol architectures for the connectivity between the vehicle and the cloud. Understanding of the architecture of satellite positioning systems and the main design principles and performance trade-off.

Fundamentals of communication engineering.

Wireless communication fundamentals. Telecommunication scenario. Intra and intervehicle communication systems. Digital cellular radio, spectrum usage, link budget in a realistic scenario, with noise, fading and interference. Propagation effects. Digital modulation fundamentals, design examples. Lab. Activity.

II part: O.Andrisano

 Baseband and Passband System analysis

 Transmitter and Receiver structures, Analog and Digital Modulations. Filter design in analog and digital communication systems. Transmission over band-limited channels, intersymbol Interference. Noise and interference characterization. Quality evaluation for different mo-demodulation formats. Lab Activity

III part: O.Andrisano

Design criteria and Application examples

Comparison of different Mo-Demodulations methods. Tradeoff between spectrum efficiency and power efficiency. Fading models: flat and selective effects. Non linear effects. Applications examples for terrestrial, satellite and mobile radio systems. Lab. Activity

- Lectures

- Laboratory activities are organized and measurements are done on workbench about topics including noise figure, RC filter, Supereterodine receiver, band-image problem, low-pass analog filters, amplitude modulation, frequency modulation.

- Experimental or theoretical work is proposed for degree thesis, to be developed in the WiLab (Wireless Communication Laboratory www.wilab.org) or in the Italian or European industries.
