Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

The course aims to provide students with a general knowledge of the main models of industrial relations, with a peculiar emphasis on the Italian one. At the end of the course students are able to: (a) understand the evolution and the present development of industrial relations in Italy and in other European Union countries; (b) understand the main issues related to collective bargaining and trade unions’ rights.

- What industrial relations are about - theories and methods

- The relationship between industrial relations and the law

- The Actors of the system of industrial relations: trade unions, employers' associations, the State (and beyond?)

- The function and the functioning of collective bargaining

- The industrial actions

- The industrial relations within the legal system of the EU

- The industrial relations at international and global level

- The legal institutions of industrial relations in Europe

- CJEU case law

- Digitalization and industrial relations

Testi/Bibliografia

For participating in the course, students shall read:

R. Blanpain (ed), Comparative Labour Law and Industrial Relations in Industrialized Market Economies, Wolters Kluwer, 2014 - chapters from 1-5, and 18-22.

For writing the assignment, students will get help to compose a bibliography.

Metodi didattici

Lectures with PPT files, case studies, working group discussions. Sincet he course will be taught online, working group discussions will be adjusted to the online technique.

Modalità di verifica e valutazione dell'apprendimento

The mark will depend on two pillars:

  • Maximum 12 points: presence and activity on seminars.
  • Maximum 18 points: written assigment.

    Marks:

  • <18 not sufficient
  • 18-23 sufficient
  • 24-27 good
  • 28-30 very good

    Written assigment:

  • Length: 4000-6000 words
  • Topic: chosen by the student and approved by the teacher.
