Anno Accademico 2019/2020
- Docente: Giacomo Antonioni
- Crediti formativi: 3
- Lingua di insegnamento: Inglese
- Modalità didattica: Convenzionale - Lezioni in presenza
- Campus: Bologna
- Corso: Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria chimica e di processo (cod. 8896)
Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire
At the end of the course the student has skills on the static and dynamic simulation of chemical processes.
Contenuti
Requirements/Prior knowledge
Steady-state process simulation (a unit within the course of Process Analysis for Energy and Environment covers this topic).
Basic knowledge of basic Feedback control loops and of the effect of tuning parameter on the dynamic response of the system.
Fluent spoken and written English is a necessary pre-requisite: all lectures and tutorials, and all study material will be in English.
Course Contents
- Switching from steady state to dynamic simulation, understanding
the basics of pressure-flow relationship and the resulting degrees
of freedom. Providing the correct number of independent dynamic
specifications.
- Observation and understanding of various simple feed-back
controllers.
- Implementation and analysis of different control strategies:
cascade control, split-range control.
- Use of dynamic simulation for the evaluation of time-varying
releases (from pressure relief devices, full bore rupture of
piping, etc,...).

and control" Dekker, NY, 2002
Metodi didattici
Most of the course will be taught through the analysis of examples solved with the aid of a commercial process simulation software. Some lectures about theoretical background aspects are also included when required.
Modalità di verifica e valutazione dell'apprendimento
Achievements will be assessed by the means of a final exam. This is based on an analytical assessment of the "expected learning outcomes" described above.
In order to properly assess such achievement the examination is composed of an exercise in which students should independently solve a problem, by means of the software tool taught, producing a file with the
results and a short report.
Strumenti a supporto della didattica
Lecture slides about required theoretical background text and solution files of examples shown during the course (available on AMS Campus)
