  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Laurea Magistrale in Automation engineering / ingegneria dell’automazione (cod. 8891)

Contenuti

Part 1

  • Introduction to industrial plants and industrial logistics: definitions and classification drivers, material and informative flows, supply chain and supply chain management, long- and short-term design and management actions, decisional flow-chart for the feasibility study of industrial and logistic systems. Fundamentals of economic analysis for production plants.
  • Production area design: systematic layout planning, P-Q analysis, flow- and job-shop vs. hybrid configurations. Product-quantity data sheet. Documents for the flow analysis.
  • Direct calculation method to size flow- and job-shop manufacturing areas. Equipment requirements in product and process configurations. Resource utilization indices. Design of manufacturing lines with and without inter-operational buffers. Design of job-shop production areas. The production-oriented curve and the average utilization index (volume and value curves).
  • Flexible manufacturing systems (FMS): overview, functional modules and real-time control. The cell formation problem to define part clusters for FMS. The new frontier of advanced manufacturing: the Reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS).
  • Assembly lines: fundamentals. Line balancing: analytic versions of the ALBP and heuristic methods to best-balance assembly lines. Flexible assembly systems (FAS): overview, functional modules and real-time control.
  • Performances in industrial logistics (production stage): OEE, service level and reliability concepts. Measuring the performances, operative tools and strategies for the continuous improvement of the production processes.

Part 2

  • Definitions and classification of storage/handling items (Stock-Keeping-Units or SKUs), the unit load and the handling unit: their role in Industrial plants and Logistics systems. Methodological approaches to the design of packaging hierarchy around the handling units for bot intra- and extra-node physical flow management.
  • Definition and taxonomy of the handling systems: Flexibility vs. Automation. The evolution of the sector toward the Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs). Flow analysis and AGVs’ Fleet management and optimization.
  • Warehousing (Storage) systems: Definition and taxonomy. The characteristics and performances of different storage modes and equipment. Inventory management and design of the storage system under uncertainty (Risk assessment).
  • Manual Warehouse vs. Automated Storage/Retrieving (Vehicle) Systems (ASRSs and ASRVSs). Definition and design methodologies. Storage Allocation (i.e., how much to store?) and Storage Assignment (i.e., where to store?) Policies and Heuristics.
  • Block-stacking or Deep-Lane storage systems: how they shape the facility layout. Design techniques and optimization models.
  • Plant Layout Problem: a Control-Point (CP)-driven design methodology. Definition and Problem statement, Models, and Solving Algorithms.

Testi/Bibliografia

Metodi didattici

In presenza.
