Course contents

This course is aimed at the acquisition of the necessary skills to translate specialized texts from Spanish into Italian, in order to prepare students to master several specialized languages. We will work on several textual genres related to medical and mechanical fields. For each of these areas, specific indications will be provided on the relevant linguistic characteristics (tone, register, style, standards, etc.). The student will use several CAT tools, as well as dictionaries, glossaries, translation memories, corpora and terminology databases. The revision of the translation assignments will be carried out with specific tools commonly used by translation agencies, in order to simulate an actual professional translation task and provide students with a detailed feedback.

Teaching methods

This course module requires a 70% student attendance.

The lessons are conceived as a laboratory where, starting from a technical text, analysis, documentation, translation, correction and commenting activities are carried out, with brief theoretical insights.

The lessons are held in a computer lab, in order to provide each student with a PC equipped with CAT tools and Internet connection.

An active participation of all students in the proposed exercises is required.

As concerns the teaching methods of this course unit, all students must attend the online Modules 1, 2 on Health and Safety [https://www.unibo.it/en/services-and-opportunities/health-and-assistance/health-and-safety/online-course-on-health-and-safety-in-study-and-internship-areas ].
