  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Fashion Cultures and Practices (cod. 9064)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to acknowledge the main movements that develop in fashion from the second half of the Nineteenth Century up to the latest trends; he/she acquires the theoretical-methodological instruments to investigate the currents of fashion in their intersections with visual arts; he/she will be able to recognize the styles of contemporary fashion through a phenomenological approach.

Course contents

The course embraces a time span that starts from the poetics of the second half of the twentieth century, with the initial starting point constituted by the refusal of the Balenciaga-Dior front: it is against the double line of these two pillars of contemporary fashion that the Pop Fashion front is compacted, in able to decree the widespread diffusion of street fashion, now made official through the creations of Mary Quant, Pierre Cardin and Fiorucci. The analysis will then move on to probing the quotationism of Valentino, Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent; the  Mimalism of Armani and Jil Sander, the Poor Fashion of the Japanese designers, then the retro references of Versace, Moschino, Gaultier, up to the various "neisms" of the Nineties (Neopop, Neominimalism, Neopoverism), to reach up to the most experimental designers of today, therefore analyzing Alexander McQueen's, Raf Simons's, Alessandro Michele's (Gucci) and many other protagonist's runways.
