Learning outcomes

The student is able to understand and produce a wide range of written complex texts and express him/herself with a degree of fluency and spontaneity.

Course contents

Russian Language and Culture (S. Slavkova): The course handles the following grammar subjects: the use of the cases with and without prepositions determined by verbs; the use of verbal aspects; some particularities in the use of the verbs of motion; complex periods and different subordinating conjunctions: conjunctions of time, place, cause, purpose, result, concession, condition. A special attention will be paid to the use and the declension of cardinal, ordinal and collective numerals. The grammar material will be analysed with the use of texts of current importance on the topics related to the modern Russian society.

Lettorato - Language Lab (K. Balakina): Attendance of the language lab is mandatory, and is counted as part of the class attendance in general.

Lessons in the language lab will consist of reading and listening exercises; grammar exercises; vocabulary boosting activities; oral production exercises (dialogue and monologue), as well as writing (summary). The topics discussed during the course deal with the state organization and administrative division of the Russian Federation, Russian culture and education, as well as various aspects of everyday life in nowadays Russia. The language Lab is an integral part of the course, and the topics discussed during the course will be part of the final exam.

Teaching methods

Course Attendance of at least 70% is mandatory. The course consists of interactive lectures and includes practical activities, such as exercises, brief readings and translations. A individual homework will be regularly assigned, followed by the distribution of the teacher’s feedback.

The "lettorato" component aims at widening of students’ vocabulary as well as practicing of the acquired language skills. Students will be asked to autonomously read some contemporary original texts.

Assessment methods

In order to assess the acquisition of the language competence and skills, at the end of the module each student has to take an exam. The exam consists of a written part (grammar-lexical test) and an oral part that involes reading and translation activities, grammar analyses of a text and conversation on one of the topics related to the Language lab lessons.

During the evaluation process the written homework assignments will also be taken into consideration.

The final mark will be calculated as the average of the marks a student got for the two parts of the exam.

30-30L: excellent performance that demonstrates excellent acquisition of the lexical, grammatical and cultural content proposed in the course; excellent command of the Russian language and culture.

27-29: a good performance, with minor errors compensated by more than sufficient demonstration of knowledge and language skills.

24– 26: valid performance, but with some obvious errors that denote a partial acquisition of the required language knowledge and skills.

21-23: sufficient result but with conspicuous limits in the required knowledge and skills.

18– 20: the performance corresponds to the mininum level of the required knowledge and skills.

<18 insufficient: basic knowledge has not been achieved, the exam must be repeated

Teaching tools

In addition to the bibliography some paper and multimedia materials will be offered in class in order to practice one's reading, listening, writing and conversational skills. These materials can be found on the course website at http://moodle.sslmit.unibo.it/.
