Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students are acquainted with the European and international institutions active in the field of social and labour law. They know the main legal instruments and rules and the way in which these are made effective in the domestic legal order. They master the basic concepts and material sources of European and international labour law.

Course contents

The course is divided in 2 modules. Module 1 addresses the foundations of International Law and the main universal organisations operating in the field of labor law (ILO, WTO, etc.). Module 2 deals with regional organisations and the free circulation of EU and non-EU workers as well as with the main legislation adopted at the EU level concerning labor law and the protection of workers.

Teaching methods

The course will be interactive and focus on the practical consequences of International and EU labor law in the Italian legal order. The lectures will address the main topics of the course through the analysis of the relevant international treaties, secondary provisions and (administrative and judicial) practice in the field of labor law and the protection of workers.

Assessment methods

The exam will be in written form.

The exam will be in oral form only for the students that have to obtain fewer than 9 credits. Students that have to take oral exams should contact the lecturers beforehand.

Students not attending the lectures must demonstrate knowledge of all the topics addressed in the manual of the course (A. Zanobetti, Diritto internazionale del lavoro. Norme universali, regionali e dell'Unione europea).
