Learning outcomes

At the end of the Laboratory the students are able to independently conduct an experiment in the field of experimental linguistics, in its different phases. He can organize and gather complex information in a consistent form and is able to apply critical analysis methodologies on linguistic phenomena.

Course contents

The attendance to a basic course in Linguistics is mandatory in order to attend the Laboratory. Students with no specific background in Linguistics are requested to study a Handbook of Linguistics.

Students will participate in laboratory exercises, during which the basic notions of the course will be introduced. Each laboratory exercise will include a discussion of the working hypotheses, of the methodologies of linguistic data collection and processing, and of the results and findings obtained.

Readings/Bibliography

The complete list of readings will be provided during the lectures and the list, along with the slides of the lectures, will be uploaded on the e-learning platform at the end of the course.

Supplementary materials and exercises will be made available to the students on the e-learning platform.

Assessment methods

Attendance and participation in the activities of the Laboratory count as an evaluation criterion for the purposes of the final assessment, which will consist in an oral exam.

The oral exam aims at assessing the assimilation of the notion discussed during the course, and of the basic methods that drive linguistic analysis and current research in the field of linguistics.

It is obligatory for the students to sign up for the exam through Almaesami.

During the lectures I will make use of slide presentations that will be made available to the students on the e-learning platform.
